Cyprus Wedding Photography

Back in May I was lucky enough to fly over to Cyprus for a few days to photograph Laura and Stephen’s wedding celebrations. I had previously met them back in 2016 at Jennifer and Ian’s wedding, and I was so happy when they got in touch with me about their own plans. Laura’s parents live out in Peyia, so they spend quite a lot of time over there. They had fallen in love with the idea of having their wedding at Viklari, a family run restaurant high up in the hills. The restaurant is a bit of a hidden gem amongst locals, it’s tucked away out of sight and it’s quite a bumpy journey to get there. The views and the food are glorious in equal measures, I instantly understood why Laura and Stephen had chosen it for their wedding. I spent the day before the wedding photographing Laura’s yoga class with the family, it was a tough job but somebody had to do it ;). Everyone then made their way to lunch, before heading over to Viklari for final preparations and a look around.

Viklari Wedding Ceremony

The rumbling of thunder in the distance had everyone on their toes on the wedding morning, particularly Laura’s Dad.  As Viklari doesn’t have electricity, having the evening reception there wasn’t an option. Laura’s parent’s were generously opening up their villa garden for that, so rain didn’t feature high on their plans at all. No need to worry though as the storm stayed away and the sun shone brightly over the hills, whilst everybody looked on as Laura and Stephen exchanged vows. The grape vines made great cover from the beating sun (and the crazy wind) as everyone listened to speeches, ate some amazing food (the best cake I have EVER eaten btw, I still think about now), and celebrated in the beautiful surroundings.

Reception at Home

After a little break (I might have even squeezed in a little nap), the party made its way over to the villa. I’m fairly certain I wasn’t the only one who had an afternoon nap, as everyone came back bright-eyed and ready to party, which is exactly what they did. Lots of singing and plenty of dancing in the street, it’s a good job all the neighbours were at the party too. This was one of those occasions where I stood back for a few minutes towards the end of the night to take it all in and think, this is my job. How bloody lucky am I? Massive thanks to Laura, Stephen, and their amazing families and friends, who all made me feel so welcome from the minute I arrived.
